This isn't another hamfest calendar. These are the second-tier regional fests within a few hours of Raleigh, NC that I'd personally burn gas for — judged on flea-market and tailgate quality, table cost, and whether the used-gear hunting justifies the drive. The big famous shows don't need my help. These do. The list leads with one still ahead this fall — a free swapmeet in South Carolina next Saturday — then the 2027 editions to plan around.
Dates and prices: 2027 dates are shown where confirmed; prices are the most recent published figures and may move. When a detail says checking with the club, it means exactly that — confirm before you load the truck.

Columbia ARC Swapmeet — Elgin, SC
Potters Park, Elgin, SC · sponsor: Columbia Amateur Radio Club · talk-in 147.330 MHz (+), PL 156.7
Leo's take
The purest bargain-hunter format on this list: no admission, no table fee, just a park full of people selling gear out of their trunks. Small and informal — exactly where the underpriced rig hides, because nobody's paying booth rent they have to earn back.
Flea market: Pure swapmeet — buy / sell / swap, plus live demos
Tables: Free to set up and sell
Admission: FREE
Drive from Raleigh: ~3.5 hours
Worth the gas: The drive is the only cost. Go early — a 7 AM start means the good iron moves before the coffee cools.
An early-season indoor show about two and a half hours out. If you want another indoor option before spring really gets going, this is the one. Table pricing below is from the club's last published flea-market package (2024).
Flea market: Indoor flea market plus commercial vendors
Tables: $30 each, extra tables $20, electricity $45 (2024 published package)
Admission: $12 advance / $14–$15 at the door (2026)
Drive from Raleigh: ~2.5 hours

RARSfest — Raleigh, NC
NC State Fairgrounds, Raleigh, NC · rarsfest.org · hosting the ARRL Roanoke Division Convention in 2027
Leo's take — the best fit
The best fit on this list, and it's in our backyard. Indoor, climate-controlled, and you can drive right up to your table to load in. 230+ flea tables, and a lot of buyers come specifically for used gear. Zero travel cost. It sold out in 2024 — register the day registration opens.
Flea market: 230+ tables, large indoor flea market + dealer area
Tables: $25 each + $25 for 120V power (2026)
Admission: Separate from table fee (check current pricing)
Drive from Raleigh: Local — zero travel cost
Worth the gas: There is no gas. This is the one you do not miss.

Southeastern Virginia Regional Hamfest & Swap Meet
Knights of Columbus Hall, 12742 Nettles Dr., Newport News, VA · trcihamfest.com
Leo's take
Tailgating is five bucks a vehicle, so it costs almost nothing to try. Smaller crowd, about three hours away — I'd rank it as a worthwhile summer add-on rather than a core show.
Flea market: Indoor exhibit hall plus tailgating
Tailgating: $5 per vehicle (2026)
Admission: $10 at the door (2026)
Drive from Raleigh: ~3 hours

Shelby Hamfest
Cleveland County Fairgrounds, 1751 E. Marion St., Shelby, NC · shelbyhamfest.com
Leo's take
The largest used-gear crowd in the radius, and used radio gear is a big part of this show's reputation. Plan on two to three days of travel and lodging — the show runs Friday and Saturday, setup starts Thursday. The main flea market is outdoors in the midway, so bring a canopy and a rain plan for sensitive equipment. There are covered spaces connected to Weathers Arena that would protect the radios — email hamfestshelby@gmail.com to ask about those.
Spaces: $20 each, first come first served; Sunday "land rush" before the show (2026)
Admission: $10 at the gate, 12 & under free; free parking (2026)
Drive from Raleigh: ~3 hours + lodging
Worth the gas: Yes — the biggest used-gear turnout on this list. Budget the hotel.

Rock Hill Hamfest
Rock Hill, SC · sponsor: York County Amateur Radio Society · ycars.org
Leo's take
It hosted the SC Section Convention, so there's probably good used-gear traffic. Venue now confirmed (below) — the club's own site says the church hosts its annual hamfest, and the 2026 edition ran there Oct 3. Vendor fees still unconfirmed.
